Peoria, IL – The Peoria Chiefs lost game one of a double header 1-0 to the Cedar Rapids Kernels in a five inning rain shortened game and the second game was postponed and will be made up in May. The Chiefs are now 9-13 on the season heading into an off day and a six-game trip to Michigan.
Cedar Rapids broke up Chiefs starter John Kilichowski’s no hit bid in the fourth inning. Lewin Diaz was hit by a pitch and Jaylin Davis singled to left field for the first hit of the game against Kilichowski. Caleb Hamilton doubled to left field two batters later on a ball that was just out of the reach of left fielder Matt Davis. The double scored Diaz from second and gave Cedar Rapids a 1-0 lead.
Rain started to fall steadily at Dozer Park during the fourth inning. The Chiefs had a single by Stefan Trosclair in the second inning but Kernels starter Clark Beeker retired the next 10 Peoria hitters. After the fifth the field was deemed unplayable with the game being official after five innings.
Kilichowski (0-3) threw all five innings in the loss, allowing one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The game goes down as a complete game for Kilichowski, this first this season for a Chiefs pitcher.
