Fort Wayne, IN- The Peoria Chiefs couldn’t get the offense going Wednesday afternoon in a 1-0 road loss to the Fort Wayne TinCaps. The loss, their fourth in a row, drops the Chiefs to 8-11 on the season and they will attempt to avoid the sweep Thursday night in Indiana.
The TinCaps took an early lead against Chiefs starter Jake Woodford in the bottom of the first inning. The first two batters, Rod Boykin and Michael Gettys, both drew walks and advanced on a wild pitch. With one out the TinCaps took a 1-0 lead on a RBI groundout from Carlos Belen before Woodford got out of the inning with a strikeout.
The Chiefs never got a runner past second base in the game and had only two chances with a runner in scoring position. Against starter Jacob Nix in the fourth inning, Magneuris Sierra made it to second on a bunt single and a throwing error by Nix. But he was left there with two straight flyouts as Nix ended his afternoon and gave way to Enyel De Los Santos. Craig Aikin walked to start the sixth and Sierra walked with two outs, but De Los Santos got a flyout to end the threat.
Woodford threw a career-high seven innings and allowed one run on three hits while walking a career-high five and striking out four. Luke Harrison threw one hitless inning with a walk and a strikeout.
