Opening to the public on Friday, July 12 in part of the renovated Delmar Maker District in St. Louis are expansions of Steve’s Hot Dogs, The Fountain on Delmar (a compliment to The Fountain on Locust), and Alpha Brewing Company. A grand opening celebration with music will be held on Saturday, July 13 from morning until night.
Don’t worry, you can still find them all in their original locations but this new spot offers almost an open concept for the three tried and true restaurants and brewery. Just east of Union Blvd. on Delmar (if you recall where the shuttered car wash was then you know where this is), these beloved brands are ready to serve you. Parts of the area are still under construction with future restaurants in the plans so we suggest becoming familiar now as we predict it will only become more popular with time.
Pay special attention to the details in each space. The Fountain on Delmar has been stylized in the Art Deco era which includes a large mural depicting St. Louis-born Josephine Baker. Steve’s Hot Dogs has a wall dedicated to many local bands from the ’90s and nostalgia for some national acts that passed through such as Elvis performing at Kiel Auditorium for a mere $2.
Alpha Brewing Co. is big and open with attention to the lighting fixtures and the large, wood-based seating down its center. It may tend to get noisy with music and people talking but the space is still being worked on and that could change. Or you can go outside to the common areas.
Of course, there’s the food and drinks, too. Steve’s Hot Dogs menu is tried and true as is Alpha Brewing’s beers. The Fountain on Delmar does deviate from their location in Midtown by focusing on breakfast pastries and treats (no pickle soup at this location) and coffee, otherwise, it’s nearly all ice cream-based treats and drinks — however, they do offer non-ice cream drinks as well. We tried the refreshing Secret Crush mocktail which is a blend of lemon, orange and pineapple juices with a dash of pomegranate.
The addresses and hours are:
Steve’s Hot Dogs — 5248 Delmar Blvd.
11 am to 9 pm on weekdays, 11 am to 10 pm on weekends, closed Tuesdays
The Fountain on Delmar — 5242 Delmar Blvd.
8 am to 9 pm on weekdays, 8 am to 10 pm on weekends, closed Tuesdays
Alpha Brewing Company — 5232 Delmar Blvd.
As for parking — there are a couple of lots and as of right now, street parking is free along Delmar. We’d love to see a bike rack or three as it’s close to many neighborhoods.
If you can’t make the opening weekend, then mark your calendars for July 19 from 5-10 p.m. when Maker District will hold a block party that includes Third Degree Glass Factory, Craft Alliance, the new restaurants, and more.
