St. Louis Lions WPSL Prepares For June Return

by Brian Ledford

After a long, patient wait, St. Louis Lions WPSL re-ignites their operations with games starting in June.

The local rep of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) recently revealed their 10-game 2021 schedule that contains five battles on their home pitch at Tony Glavin Soccer Complex in Cottleville.

The team last competed in summer 2019 and finished with a stellar 7-2-1 record. After a pandemic-erased 2020, this season finds the squad plying their trade in the ultra-competitive, seven-team WPSL Midwestern Conference.

Founded in 2018, the Lions recently held open tryouts this past weekend and the ensuing roster that features top-notch, local collegiate talent will be revealed shortly.

The chosen collective begins their year with a road game against conference foe Lady Victory FC at Guerin Catholic High School in Noblesville, Indiana on Saturday, June 5.

Their home opener in Cottleville takes place the following day (Sunday, June 6) with a 5 p.m. showdown against Indianapolis-based FC Pride.

Home contests against Dayton Dutch Lions (June 13), Columbus Eagles (June 20), Fire and Ice (June 30) and Lady Victory FC (July 10) dot the schedule.

To entice their local fan base, the franchise is offering a five-game season ticket for $25 while a children’s (6-18 years) season ticket runs $12.50. For all Lions games this season, kids five and under receive free admission. Season tickets will go on sale shortly.
