Springfield Cardinals Announce Front Office Promotion

by Press Release

The Springfield Cardinals are excited to announce the promotion of Matt Turer from Public Relations Coordinator to the organization’s newly created position of Public Relations & Digital Media Specialist.

Since joining Springfield in November 2017, Matt has established the Cardinals social media platforms as a leading presence and voice across all of Minor League Baseball while carving out a popular niche within Cardinals Nation.

Under Turer’s guidance, Springfield’s social accounts led all 30 Double-A teams in average interactions per post (773) during the 2019 season (April 1 – September 2). Additionally, the Cardinals added over 16,400 followers from November 2018 to November 2019, growing by more than 12% overall (triple the rate of 2017 to 2018) with a particularly high 62% growth on Instagram. Since Turer joined the team, Springfield’s average social engagements have gone from 473 in 2017 to 773 in 2019. Turer also acts as the team’s photography manager and was nominated for Minor League Baseball Photo of the Year in 2019.

“Social media is an extremely important tool for us for interacting with our fans, continuing to grow fan affinity for the Springfield Cardinals and for marketing the Cardinals brand online,” Springfield Cardinals General Manager Dan Reiter said. “Matt has found a way to balance the tradition that comes with the ‘Cardinals’ name with a brand voice and attitude that’s completely unique to Springfield, and that’s something that both our fans and fans of the entire Cardinals organization have really embraced over these last two seasons.”

In this new role, Turer will continue to lead the Springfield Cardinals social media accounts, which include 70,881 Facebook followers; 47,143 Twitter followers; and 34,727 Instagram followers. The team’s 152,751 followers place it among the Top 15 social followings across all 160 affiliated Minor League Baseball teams.

Turer has also managed the team’s transition to a new, responsive website over the past two years that has had a hand in organizational record-setting online individual ticket sales and group sales. Additionally, he continues to be the team’s main Public Relations contact and digital marketing copywriter.
