Netflix has acquired The Division, Ubisoft’s movie adaptation based on the the popular video game released in 2016. At launch, The Division quickly became the fastest selling new IP in video game history and currently has more than 20 million players. The sequel, The Division 2 released this past March to critical acclaim and continues to provide players with new content on an ongoing basis.
The Division plot takes place in the near future where a pandemic virus is spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, are activated in an attempt to save who and what remains.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain will star in the film.

Access Granted. Commencing Transmission] Director @DavidMLeitch, @Jes_Chastain, and Jake Gyllenhaal are bringing Ubisoft’s The Division to Netflix. It’s the Tom Clancy high-stakes action you love, in the pandemic stricken Manhattan that offers no second chances.
It will be directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, The Fast & Furious Presents: HOBBS & SHAW) and Rafe Judkins will adapt the screenplay based on the video game. Judkins is currently creating the upcoming series Wheel of Time for Amazon, based on the acclaimed fantasy novels.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker of Nine Stories along with Jessica Chastain and Kelly Carmichael of Freckle Films, and David Leitch and Kelly McCormick of 8711 are also producing the film with Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
