The Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) match featured a pair of goals each from midfielder Cristina Rodriguez and forward Mackenzie Rief while goalie Olivia Silverman recorded her third shutout of the Lions’ inaugural campaign.

Sunday’s result added three points to St. Louis’ current record of 2-1-3 for nine points overall and extended the team’s point-scoring streak to five straight matches.

In the first half, midfielder Maddie Pokorny netted her third goal of the season as St. Louis posted the first point on the scoreboard.

Later in the frame, Rief collected her first goal of the season resulting in the Lions’ 2-0 advantage.

With clutch work by starting defenders Alli Klug, Madison Schmied and Bella Palazzolo, midfielders Courtney Reimer and Allison Verville and a host of others that hampered the Kansas City contingent, St. Louis maintained their two-goal lead at intermission.

In the second half, Rodriguez collected her second goal of the season that pushed the score to 3-0.

Rief and Rodriguez collected additional goals in the frame that extended the Lions’ lead to 5-0.

Silverman claimed a clean sheet for the afternoon, which included a point-blank save on a Courage penalty kick, en route to the five-goal triumph and the team’s three-point push.

St. Louis currently sits in third place in the Heartland Conference and has an important home match against conference leader, and defending WPSL National Champion, Fire & Ice SC  (4-0-1, 13 points) this Friday at 6 p.m. at their Cottleville pitch. The Lions netted a scoreless draw against the powerhouse on June 13 so optimism is high.

Attendees will receive a free team poster and an autograph session with the players will take place after the match. Tickets are $10 apiece for adults and $5 for children ages 6-18.
