by Press Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Texas League has announced Springfield Cardinals first baseman John Nogowski as Player of the Week for April 23 – 29.

Nogowski, 25, continued his torrid start to 2018 last week, hitting .454 (10-22) with one home run, one double, seven RBIs and four runs in six games. He led the league in batting average and RBIs and was second in hits (10), helping Springfield go 5-1 on the week while recording a hit in each game.

The Tallahassee, Florida native has been on a tear this season, hitting .384 with four home runs, four doubles and 20 RBIs in 20 games this April with a .432 on-base percentage and 1.035 OPS. Nogowski is riding a career-best 11-game hitting streak, is currently second in the Texas League in batting and RBIs, fifth in total bases (44) and first in Total Plate Appearances/Strikeout Ratio (16.20).

The first baseman was selected by Oakland in the 34th round of the 2014 June Draft out of Florida State University. The Athletics released Nogowski on March 27, 2017. After spending nearly three months with the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association, where he batted .402 over 34 games, St. Louis acquired Nogowski on June 29, 2017, signing him as a Minor League free agent.
