Midland, TX – Midland 3B Mikey White collected four RBIs to help power the RockHounds to the 6-3 win against the Springfield Cardinals before 4,460 fans at Security Bank Ballpark on Friday night.
Cardinals RHP Ryan Helsley (L, 0-1) started the game with a scoreless first, but the RockHounds (2-0) got on the board with an RBI groundout from Mikey White in the second for the 1-0 lead.
Springfield (0-2) responded right away with two runs against RHP Corey Walter (W, 1-0) in the top of the third. DH Thomas Spitz sparked the charge with a leadoff triple, before scoring on an RBI groundout from 2B Tommy Edman. One out later, C Andrew Knizner extended the stanza with a double to left-center. 1B John Nogowski cashed in with a two-out RBI single to right field, scoring Knizner for the 2-1 lead and Nogowski’s third RBI already this season.
Helsley blanked the ‘Hounds in the third and fourth, but Midland tied it with two runs (one earned) in the fifth. The RockHounds then powered in front when Mikey White struck with a three-run blast in the sixth, lifting Midland into the 6-3 lead.
Both bullpens provided scoreless work from there, with RockHounds RHP Nolan Blackwood (S, 1) closing the 6-3 RockHounds win with a scoreless ninth.
