Saint Louis FC look to keep some momentum going as they travel to New Jersey to face the Red Bull2 team in Red Bull Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Having won and tied their past two games to Oklahoma City Energy and Toronto 2, gaining 4 points from 6 gives Dale Schilly’s team a platform to build on heading east this weekend. A win against NYRB2 will be essential for the Saints playoff hopes as New York are 5th in the eastern conference and 6 points ahead. This won’t be easy as New York who suffered a slow start to the season themselves have propelled themselves into contention after going on a run of four wins in six, which included handing Louisville City their only home loss of the season and then coming to Worldwide Technology Soccer Park and were victorious in a 4-1 win over Saint Louis back in June.
“They’re quality, we hung with them 2-1 until the 82nd minute, we couldn’t deal with the last two they scored at the end,” said Schilly. “Our new found organization and shape, playing a third game together possibly. It will be good to go there and get some revenge and hopefully some payback.”
Schilly is referring to the fact that for the first time all season in the past two games he was able to field the same starting eleven players in a row. The run of injuries which have plagued the season to key players including Brandon Barklage, James Musa, Nick Bibbs and Jamiel Hardware. All look to be fit an healthy once again and as the chemistry between the players continues to grow. Also the strange anomaly that STLFC have managed over twice as many points on the road as at home (15 on road / 7 at home), Schilly and the fans will hope the trend continues as the three points is imperative to keeping chase in the playoff hunt.
The Saint Louligans will have a watch party for the game at 4pm on Sunday at Itap in Soulard and the next home game is on August 8th at 7:30pm against FC Montreal. tickets for that can be purchased at saintlouisfc.com
