Saint Louis FC pulls out a 2-1 victory over Charlotte Independence at Ramblewood Stadium on Saturday night to make it a 4-point North Carolina road trip.
With the win, Saint Louis FC moves to 4-5-6 (18 pts.) on the season.
The loss for Charlotte is only its second loss in seven home matches this season. The side now goes to 4-5-4 (16 pts.).
Saint Louis FC got off to a good start after Parker Maher sent a diving header home in the 6th minute to put the visitors ahead 1-0. Defender Patrick Doody sent a curling left-footer over the heads of a pair of Charlotte defenders, which Maher ran onto and sent past Columbus Crew loanee, goalkeeper Matt Lampson. It was Maher’s first goal of the season.
Saint Louis was able to hold on for more than an hour before Charlotte substitute Daniel Jackson sent a shot past Alec Kann to equalize the sides in the 68th minute. Jackson, who came on in the 64th minute for just his second appearance all season, received the ball from Alex Martinez and one-timed it past Kann to make it a 1-1 game.
The game looked to end level until Saint Louis FC substitute Kingsley Bryce found the back of the net in the 89th minute to put the visitors ahead once more 2-1. Bryan Gaul fired a shot from 15 yards out that deflected off Lampson, which Bryce was able to track down and tap in. It was also Bryce’s first goal of the season.
Saint Louis FC will return home next Saturday, July 11th to face the Richmond Kickers for the first of two meetings between the sides this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
