FENTON,MO– After a week filled with non-stop rain and wind, Saint Louis FC hosted the Colorado Springs Switchbacks at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.

Saint Louis FC suffered a 1-0 loss to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Friday night in USL regular season action.

The loss puts STL FC at 3-4-5 (14 pts) on the season while Colorado Springs moves to 8-5-0 (24 pts). Colorado is now on a four game win streak.

Playing in its fourth game in 13 days, Head Coach Dale Schilly said that Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup match at Sporting Kansas City especially took a toll on his team. “When we went into halftime at 0-0 against Sporting Kansas City, we had a chance to go for it and keep guys on the field and let them go until the very end,” Schilly said. “We made that choice and knew it would make things very difficult tonight.”

The Switchbacks notched the first goal early in the first half off a harmless shot on goal by Rony Argueta 25 yards out. Argueta took a quick touch before shooting low into the far corner, beating STL GK Alec Kann.

Midfielder Bryan Gaul (@BryanGaul17) explained, “You never want to go down a goal early, but you can see the fight to get back in the game. Everyone comes together and we work harder.”

Saint Louis battled back all game thanks to the help of 4,742 fans in attendance, but could not overcome the deficit. A couple of great scoring chances came in the first half of the foot of Peter Kelly, a product of Priory High School, and Saint Louis Native.

The second half was filled with back and forth play by Saint Louis and Colorado. After letting in the early goal, Kann had a strong second half making six total saves. LB Patrick Doody (@PatrickDoody19) had a couple great crosses into the box but COL GK Samir Badr saved all three quality shots on goal.

Saint Louis FC will look to get their fourth win of the season as they host the New York Red Bulls II Saturday, June 27th at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
