Last time out: In the Fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup Saint Louis FC (3-3-5) fell to MLS Sporting Kansas City 1-0. Saint Louis kept up with the fast paced, and regular starting 11 of Sporting the entire game, but could not create a scoring chance that resulted in the ball getting over the goal line. Sporting scored their only goal, from Grahm Zusi, their starting forward and a member of the USMNT off of a cross that entered the box, and off the head of Zusi.
The Opponent: Colorado Springs Switchbacks (7-5-0) come in to Friday Night’s game on a three game win streak. In that stretch, they have found the back of the net eight times. They look to see the continued success of Luke Vercollone, who has six goals and seven assists on the season, as well as Miguel Gonzalez, who also has six goals. Colorado is currently ranked in 5th place in the USL Western Conference standings.
This will be the first meeting of the year between the two sides. Saint Louis is coming in with four draws in their last four league matches. They must overcome this streak of draws and add three points to their name in the upcoming match.
James Musa was out of his walking boot and did a light practice workout today. Mike Roach, who suffered an apparent ankle injury last week is still at practice but doing light work. I expect both will return to the lineup shortly, and will surely help out the squad.
