Match Preview: Saint Louis FC v Minnesota United

FENTON, MO – In the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Saint Louis FC looks to steal a victory from NASL powerhouse Minnesota United FC. The winner of this game will travel to Kansas City, Missouri to play Sporting KC of the MLS in the next round of the tournament.

Minnesota is ranked second in the standings and is on a three game win streak, scoring a total of seven goals in that stretch. On Saturday, Minnesota scored three second-half goals en route to a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville Armada FC. MUFC will be promoted to the MLS in 2017.

Screen Shot 2015-05-26 at 1.49.23 PM  Saint Louis FC is ranked 8th in the USL Eastern Conference standings after their last match resulted in a draw against Louisville City FC. In a contest that was delayed an hour due to severe weather, Saint Louis FC took a one-goal lead on three separate occassions but was unable to close out the victory. Bryan Gaul, Jeremy Lynch, and Mike Ambersley all scored in the game.

Wednesday night’s game should be a real test for Saint Louis FC.

They close out what will be a five game homestand, playing all five games inside Marshall Wireless Stadium located at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. Saint Louis FC have gone 2-1-1 on the homestand, scoring a combined total of seven goals in those four matches.
