Ambersley Named to USL Team of the Week

by Tom Rodgers

Saint Louis FC forward Mike Ambersley was named to the USL Team of the Week after his performance in the club’s 3-3 draw against Louisville City FC Sunday night.

The St. Louis native scored the second goal of the game for STL FC and drew a penalty kick that resulted in the team’s third goal.

In the 61st minute, Ambersley registered his second goal of the season with a left-footed strike from 20 yards.  The shot curled just inside the far post, beating Louisville goalkeeper Scott Goodwin.

After severe weather delayed the game for more than an hour, Ambersley earned a penalty kick that led to another goal for Saint Louis.  After racing onto a long ball over the top, Ambersley was clipped by Goodwin inside the penalty area.  Bryan Gaul converted the ensuing spot kick.

This is the first USL Team of the Week honor for Ambersley, who becomes the seventh different STL FC player to receive the accolade this season.

Saint Louis FC will complete a five-game homestand when it hosts NASL side Minnesota United FC in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
