by Brian Ledford

The St. Louis Slam, the area’s women’s professional tackle football franchise, is set to return to the gridiron in 2015 and will hold the first of multiple public tryouts this weekend.

big picFounded in 2003, the Slam won the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) National Championship in 2009 and has reached the playoffs four times out of the last six WFA seasons.

The indoor tryout takes place this Saturday from 10 AM – Noon at Nichols Community Center (515 East D Street, Belleville, IL). Registration fee is $20 (cash/money order only, no checks).

Participants are asked to bring workout clothes, shoes, water, a towel and, according to its website, a smile.

The tryout will consist of sprints, agility, strength, conditioning and football assessments. An open question and answer session will close out the two-hour tryout.

No prior football experience is necessary.

A separate tryout that takes place in Missouri will be revealed at a later date.

Those who cannot make this weekend’s tryout in Belleville but have an interest in playing can contact the team at [email protected].
