Ambush Deal Fan-Favorite Adamson to Milwaukee

by Tim Kaiser

With the MASL trade deadline looming, the St. Louis Ambush dealt forward Corey Adamson to the Milwaukee Wave in exchange for midfielder Anthony Arico and cash on Sunday.

Adamson has seven goals and one assist in 12 games this season. Last season, he tallied eight goals, good enough for fourth on the team.

Arico, a rookie, played 13 games with the Wave with 2 goals, 3 assists, and 5 blocks to show for his work.

In two seasons with the Ambush, Adamson has become a fan favorite and a major part of the community. He is highly visible at the many Ambush events both in-season and during the offseason. He even kicked for the St. Louis Attack — the professional indoor football team run by the same ownership group — last spring.

Owner Andrew Haines released this statement after the trade:

“It’s hard to let go of a player with Corey’s talent and character. Since joining us last season, he has become a part of the Ambush family and the St. Louis community. Clearly, we need to make moves to improve our team for the rest of this season and next season and will continue to look for ways to do that. We are excited to have Anthony join our club and feel he will be a good fit and a key contributor.”

Many fans, teammates, and staff took to Twitter to wish Adamson good luck with his new club:

And some took to Twitter to voice their displeasure with the deal:

@AdamsonCorey BS! Everyone has their opinion on what is wrong with the Ambush, but you were the heart and soul of the team! We will miss you

@AndrewGHaines @StLouisAmbush @MilwaukeeWave @MASLarena WOAH!!! Of all players we can’t get rid of @AdamsonCorey! Now I’m mad!

I’m fucking pissed. Saw @AdamsonCorey live. Our first game. Got his autograph and picture… Now they fucking trade him? Ugh. @STL_Huskie

There is plenty more of both. Adamson has been retweeting people’s reactions since the news broke.

This was the second trade in less than a month between the division rivals. St. Louis previously sent Stefan St. Louis to the Wave for cash. That move paved the way for Haines to bring in MASL leading scorer Gordy Gurson.

The Ambush are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with their 5-11 record and only four games left to play. Meanwhile, Milwaukee is tied for second place in the MASL Central at 10-6 with the Chicago Mustangs and are gearing up for a playoff run.

The Ambush take the field for the first time after the trade on Friday, Feb. 6 to play the undefeated, Central division champion Missouri Comets.
