Well it was just a rumor and some talks; but now Amazon has confirmed, along with The Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema, that a multi-season commitment has been made. And for a whopping $250 million; that’s just the price tag to just get the go ahead.
While not much has been released, it has been said that the series will take place before The Fellowship of the Ring. The potential for a spin-off has also been optioned. However it is also said that there are some creative restrictions as well; i.e. what can and can’t be done in the tv series. This could be good thing however, since Amazon was wanting to do a GoT style series epic; I mean come on, seeing a sex scene in a LotR series would probably just scar us for life.
I guess it was only a matter of time before the film trilogy collected enough dust for someone, or production company, to say it was time for a re-imagining. Amazon has doneĀ some good work; however we think Netflix would have been a better contender since their success rate for creating their own television series’ has been a lot better.
