Two area derby leagues received their respective fates Tuesday in the upcoming playoffs for the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).
St. Louis-based Arch Rival Roller Girls and St. Charles-based St. Chux Derby Chix received bids to the governing organization’s 2014 international tournament. Playoff seeds and brackets were released Tuesday afternoon.
Arch Rival (5-7) received a seventh seed for the Salt Lake City, Utah Division 1 playoff and faces #10 Tri-City Roller Derby (Waterloo, ON, Canada) on Friday, September 26.
The top three finishers at the10-team weekend tournament will advance to the WFTDA Division 1 Championships, held October 31-November 2 in Nashville, TN.
The St. Chux Derby Chix (8-1) received the top seed for the Duluth, Minnesota Division 2 playoff. As a result of its top seed, the Pack In Black receives a first round bye and plays the winner of #8 Treasure Valley (Boise, ID) vs. #9 Suburbia (Yonkers, NY) on Friday, August 15.
The winner of the 10-team tournament will compete in the Division 2 Championship bout, also held at the aforementioned Division 1 Championship tournament weekend. The team that finishes runner-up in Duluth will play in a Division 2 third place bout in Nashville.
