(Press Release)
Rascals win their third in a row and their fourth series of the season! Starter Craig Goodman went six strong innings for River City allowing only three runs on four hits while striking out four and walking three. On the other hand, Schaumburg starter Seth Webster held his own, pitching six innings allowing five runs on ten hits while striking out one.
The offensive pop for Brook’s Rascals started with the deep homerun over the leftfield bleachers by veteran outfielder Evan Crawford in the bottom of inning number two. Once River City tied the game they would never look back, as they scored four more in the bottom of the third courtesy of RBI knocks by Johnny Morales (2 RBI double), Saxon Butler (RBI single), and Josh Ludy (RBI single)—who also managed to drive in a run in the bottom of the eighth via an RBI groundout pushing his league-leading RBI total to 18.
Entering the ninth with a score of 6-3 River City, closer Gabriel Shaw took the mound trying to get his fifth save in as many opportunities. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, Schaumburg first-baseman Brian McConkey belted his first homer of 2014 making it a two-run game; however, Shaw locked down the fort by getting shortstop Denver Chavez to fly out to rightfield. Following the victory, River City moves to 9-5 on the young season and looks to get their first sweep of 2014 tomorrow night as 2-0 starter Dane Stone takes the mound. The game starts at 5:05pm CT and tickets can be purchased by visiting www.rivercityrascals.com or calling (636) 240-2287.
