It was a night full of legendary moments that a rock fan would enjoy.
The show started with Don Felder who was formerly the lead guitarist of the rock band the Eagles. He played a great introduction to the night. He played classics such as “Witchy Woman”, and “Seven Bridges Road”, and of course ended his part of the show, you guessed it, “Hotel California.” I had chills hearing “Hotel California” being performed right before me—one of my favorite songs of all time.
He introduced all of his touring bandmates and some of them have toured or performed with some very reputable artists such as Racal Flatts, Sheryl Crow, and Adam Lambert. Aside from some technical difficulties toward the end of his time on stage, “Hotel California” definitely made up for it.
This was my first time seeing El Monstero, I brought my boyfriend who is a huge fan of Pink Floyd (he has “Wish You Were Here” lyrics tattooed on him). I took him last year to see the Australian Pink Floyd Show at the Factory(they will be coming back later this year, highly recommend seeing their show). That was the first time I had ever experienced the music of Pink Floyd. I realized after that night why my boyfriend was so obsessed with them, there are a lot of messages and feelings that hide within their music and lyrics. He said to me “You think that show was good? Then you have to see El Monstero”, and here we are.
I loved El Monstero, they brought together such a different viewpoint of Pink Floyd compared to the APFS. The band had such great chemistry on stage, they seemed to understand themselves as musicians well as the music in its high honor.
When a whole album can become a show, with live people acting out roles, girls dancing on poles, and people on stilts, it becomes more than just a “show,” it becomes an “experience.” El Monstero is something you will have to experience in your lifetime.
Mark Thomas Quinn has the rockstar look and sound. I enjoyed listening to him sing and show his other talents. They welcomed a special guest Moon Valjean from 105.7 The Point to sing “Have A Cigar,” a Pink Floyd song about the corruption of the music industry. I believe the music of Pink Floyd will live forever because of El Monstero. They show Pink Floyd in a light that is perfect for our culture today.
My highlight of El Monstero’s performance was “Wish You Were Here.” They featured a slideshow of people’s loved ones who have passed on. There were emotions pulled out of me. It made you stop and think that we should be ever so grateful for the lyrics of Pink Floyd and how songs written in time back then matter in our times of need right now.
