The Evansville Otters (20-13) received two hits each from outfielders Jeremy Nowak and John Schultz but the team was defeated 4-2 in the series finale against the Traverse City Beach Bums (21-10) on Sunday night.
Evansville scored first with two runs in the opening frame. Outfielder Chris Sweeney laced a two-run double to right-center and the Otters added a run on a fielding error for the 2-0 edge.
Down by two, Traverse City tallied a run off an Evansville error in the second and scored three unearned runs in the fifth.
Trailing 4-2, Evansville rallied in the eighth putting men on second and third with no outs but reliever Chuck Ghysels then retired the next three hitters to maintain the two run edge.
The Otters were then unable to score in the night, falling in the series finale by two.
Sweeney ended the night 1-for-4 with a run scored. Infielder Cory Urquhart also scored a run as well. Infielder Dean Wilson also recorded his first professional hit in the loss.
Evansville right-hander Tyler Vail (2-2) took the loss, despite yielding four runs (all unearned) in 6.0 innings. Reliever Will White made his team debut with a 1-2-3 seventh inning. Pitcher Connor Little also pitched 2.0 hitless innings in relief.
The Otters are off on Monday but continue their season-long nine game homestand on Tuesday, June 23 with a series-opener against the Frontier Greys.
