by St. Louis Ambush

The St. Louis Ambush dropped a 6-5 overtime match to the Harrisburg Heat Sunday at the Equine Arena at The Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The loss drops the Ambush to 7-10-2 on the season, while Harrisburg improves to 5-13-1.

Harrisburg controlled the first half of the match. Ty Hall scored for the Heat in the thirteenth minute of the first quarter, but St. Louis answered on Lucas Almeida’s goal in the third minute of the second period. Malcom Harris and Dominic Francis both scored in the last five minutes of the second to give the home team a 3-1 lead at halftime.

The Ambush closed the gap just 29 seconds into the second half when Duduca Carvalho found the back of the net to make it a 3-2 contest. Harrisburg went on a power play when St. Louis defender Sam Guernsey was sent off for tripping at the nine minute mark. The Heat made good on the advantage when Francis scored his second of the match 49 seconds into the power play, making the score 4-2. The Ambush quickly got one back when Robert Kristo scored ten seconds later, then scored the equalizer when Almeida got his second of the duel less than a minute later. Harrisburg regained the lead on Andrew Hoxie’s goal in the fourteenth minute of the third frame, giving them a 5-4 lead heading into the final quarter.

St. Louis knotted the score again in the tenth minute of the fourth quarter when Antonio Manfut sent a high pass to a charging Will Eskay, who headed the ball into the net. Neither team scored for the remainder of the quarter, sending the game into sudden death overtime.

Just over a minute into overtime, Harrisburg’s Lesia Thetsane nailed a top shelf shot out of reach of Ambush goalkeeper Paulo Nascimento, giving Harrisburg the 6-5 overtime victory.
