DDG Releases New Single & Music Video “If I Want You”

by Randall Skelton

Today, multiplatinum Pontiac, MI rising rapper DDG unveils a new single and music video entitled “If I Want You.” Listen to “If I Want You” HERE and watch the music video HERE.

On the track, spacey production echoes with a sparse beat and an effervescent guitar loop. DDG serves up emotionally charged verses and a hypnotic hook underlined by beautiful background vocals and mesmerizing harmonies. The music video is starring none other than his girlfriend Halle Bailey of Chloe x Halle who appears in the accompanying cinematic visual, which depicts their vibe on-screen in a fascinating fashion.

It notably paves the way for his anxiously awaited new album, It’s Not Me, It’s You, coming very soon.

He set the stage for album with “Storyteller.” It has already amassed over 2.1 million Spotify streams and 2.9 million YouTube views on the music video. Right out of the gate, REVOLT noted, “From a musical standpoint, DDG has come a long way, and UPROXX hailed it as “a romantic-ish single detailing a toxic situation that made him wiser—if not more forthcoming about his own shortcomings.

“Storyteller” arrived on the heels of his otherworldly banger “Elon Musk” [feat. Gunna]. The latter has impressively generated 32 million Spotify streams and counting and 11 million YouTube views on the music video. Right out of the gate, it earned critical acclaim. Complex observed, The Pontiac, Michigan native goes back-to-back with Gunna over an ethereal 808-heavy beat,” and UPROXX added, DDG decides to take his talents to outer space.” Meanwhile, Our Generation Music put it best, “With each passing year he continues to level up his status, bringing along high-profile features and consistently dropping quality music of his own.”

DDG has elevated the culture on his own terms. Last year, he graced the covers of KAZI MagazineUPROXXPREME, and XXL as part of the coveted 2021 Freshman Class. Not to mention, he has crossed the 1 billion stream threshold on the heels of his acclaimed project Die 4 Respect with OG Parker. It only sets the stage for a massive 2022 though.

Expanding his imprint, he announced via his YouTube channel that he is creating the first imprint label DAO in the web3 music space and will be allowing his fans and fellow DAO token holders to make all of the decisions of his imprint record label, Zooted Music.

Next up, he takes the stage at Rolling Loud Toronto in Toronto, Ontario Canada on September 9.

Be on the lookout for It’s Not Me, It’s You soon!

ABOUT DDG:

Rather than stick to the script, compromise, or follow, DDG has confidently and charismatically blazed his own trail through hip-hop and business.  Hailing from Pontiac, MI, he has quietly asserted himself as a multiplatinum music artist, and trendsetting entrepreneur. Since 2016, he has vaulted to the upper echelon of the culture, adorning top publications, picking up plaques, and eclipsing 1 billion streams. After a series of independent singles, he initially graduated from buzzing force to rap star on his 2019 debut, Valedictorian, which boasted the gold-certified banger “ARGUMENTS. However, he reached the stratosphere in 2020 with the inescapable “Moonwalking In Calabasas (Remix)” [feat. BLUEFACE]. It marked his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and went platinum. Along the way, he collaborated with everyone from YoungBoy NBA and Queen Naija to Coi LerayTyla Yaweh, Masked WolfG-Eazy, and G Herbo. Following his 2021 project Die 4 Respect with OG Parker, fans overwhelmingly voted him on to XXL’s prestigious “Freshman Class” cover, and he landed on the covers of KAZI MagazinePREME, and UPROXX. However, DDG blasts off to another level altogether in 2022 and has promised fans a second full-length album for his own DDG Entertainment and Epic Records.
