St. Louis Ambush Fan Favorite Corey Adamson Moves On

by St. Louis Ambush

One of the original members of the St. Louis Ambush is moving on. Corey Adamson, who made the team in the club’s first open tryouts in 2013, has accepted a position with another team.

Adamson is a veteran of nine professional arena soccer seasons. After breaking in with the Las Vegas Legends in 2012, Corey saw his rookie season limited to one game due to injury. He then journeyed to St. Charles for open tryouts with the Ambush in the summer of 2013, and was one of the first players to be offered a contract. Corey made his mark on St. Louis early, scoring the first goal in franchise history, then jumping into the stands to celebrate with the fans, in a 17-4 win over the Pennsylvania Roar on November 22, 2013 at the Family Arena.

Adamson split the 2014-15 season between the Ambush and Milwaukee Wave then spent the 2015-16 season with the Cedar Rapids Rampage before returning to the Ambush as a free agent for the 2016-17 campaign. Corey split the 2019-20 season, appearing in five games with the Ambush before being loaned to the Orlando SeaWolves where he served the dual role of player and assistant coach. He spent the COVID-abbreviated 2021 season with the Ambush. In 114 career games, Corey tallied 53 goals and 17 assists.

Although he hails from Clearwater, Florida, Corey wasted no time settling in, relocating to St. Charles with his wife Melissa. He made a positive impression on hundreds of kids while coaching for several area soccer clubs. Corey also became a familiar face at hundreds of personal appearances at area schools, soccer tournaments, and other events throughout the St. Louis area. Soccer isn’t the only place Adamson made his mark, as he’s a two-sport pro. He played as a kicker with the St. Louis Attack and River City Raiders arena football teams.

Ambush co-owner and CEO Shelly Clark said Adamson will be missed, “I remember Corey from our first set of tryouts. He became a part of the Ambush family from the start and while it’s difficult to see him move on, we are happy to see him get an opportunity he wants. It’s been a huge honor to have been a part of his journey. We wish him nothing but luck in his new role,” Clark said.

Ambush co-owner and GM Jeff Locker said, “Corey Adamson is one of those players who is important to the franchise both on and off the field. His combination of enthusiasm, experience, intensity and talent should serve him well as he takes the next step in his soccer career.”

Adamson said, “Playing for St. Louis has been the absolute greatest chapter of my life. The relationships and memories I have made here will last a lifetime. It’s been an honor to play for this city and represent a team and an organization with as much tradition, class, and history as the Ambush. I want to thank Shelly and Jeff for not only giving me the opportunity to be a part of this team, but for their guidance on and off the field, their friendship, and for giving me a voice on this team. To my teammates, my brothers, don’t stop working to give this city, yourselves, and your families what they deserve. Whether y’all like it or not, our paths will cross again and we can drink about it then. Anything you need I always got you! To the game-day crew, photographers, announcers, DJ Pru, social media team, and arena staff, you made the Family Arena my home. I cannot fully express my appreciation and gratitude for all of you.”

He continued, “To the fans and families that have brought me into their lives, thank you will never be enough.  The love and support you have given me and my wife since day one is something I could never repay. I am blessed to have this city to call home, no matter where I live or where I go.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I will always love the Black and Teal, and will miss it dearly. Not goodbye, just see you soon. I am excited to start the next chapter of my career.”

After two seasons shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ambush look forward to kicking off their 2021-22 season later this year. Fans can stay current on all Ambush news by visiting the team’s official website, stlambush.com or on social media outlets.
