Greg Fitzsimmons has been in the comedy biz for a little more than a minute. He’s sat alongside Howard Stern more than the average comic, he’s had his own Comedy Central stand up specials, and produced and played the role of himself on one of the most brilliantly written and produced shows on HBO, called Crashing*.
Greg so kindly took time out of his day to chat with me about some projects in the works, how he’s looking forward to the shows this weekend at Helium Comedy Club STL, and how he’s a big fan of the St. Louis music scene, too!
Currently, he spends his weekdays at home in California with is family: his wife who works full time, his son who is away at college, and his daughter who is a junior in high school. With this, he and his wife realize that the empty nest is a couple of short years away.
Judging by his material that has historically gravitated around experiences with his family, perhaps we will see a shift from the chaotic life of a parent living with assholes to the luxurious life of not giving a fuck about what you do or say all day since you no longer have no one to answer to. Well, because, 2020. Tables have turned, folks. Just accept it.
Fitzsimmons is currently working on two different podcasts. Fitzdog Radio which is highly rated among the powers that be, and recently started another one with Allison Rosen, called Childish. Both of these warrant a checking out. I personally appreciate the vulgarity and offensiveness of the content, but that’s just the type of little hairpin that I am.
Tomorrow, Greg and his business partner will be pitching a very interesting and unique game show concept to a network, as well as to other cable and streaming services. The only information that he would share with Arch City Media at this time is that the game show is similar to the dating game, but is focused more on those who identify as “gender fluid”.
Note to networks, et. al.: I will watch this, so…..
Catch Greg Fitzsimmons at Helium Comedy Club this weekend for five shows beginning on Thursday night and going through Saturday. Get set times and tickets HERE.
Grab a seat in the front if you can. I got lucky and didn’t get made fun of. He only told me that he wanted to fuck me and punch my husband in the fucking face. It was flattering and endearing and I’m forever gracious and thankful for that. Greg Fitzsimmons is a true gentleman. Buy the tickets.
*If there is no other advice that you take from me as a music/comedy critic, take this: “Crashing” is incredible and should be watched and worshiped. The writing is impeccable, intelligent, relatable, and showcases the immeasurable talent of a long list of comedians who play themselves.
