The St. Louis Ambush open their 2019-20 Major Arena Soccer League season with a busy weekend, welcoming the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave to the Family Arena on Friday, then traveling across the state to face the Kansas City Comets in Independence on Saturday.
The Ambush kick off the season at 7:05 p.m. CST on Black Friday when they welcome the reigning MASL Champion Milwaukee Wave to the Family Arena. While it may be early in the season, the home opener exemplifies the oft-heard phrase, “there are no easy game in the MASL.” There is plenty of familiarity between these two teams as they clashed five times last season and will do so again this season. The Wave prevailed in all five contests last season, a statistic the Ambush hope to change in the upcoming campaign.
The rivalry is enhanced by a handful of players who have played for both teams. Two current Wave players once occupied a spot on the Ambush roster and three Ambush players previously played for Milwaukee. The crossover of talent doesn’t end with the rosters though. Ambush head coach Hewerton spent seven seasons with the Wave during his playing days and Ambush assistant coach Mark Litton played for the Wave from 1989-94 before spending 10 years as the team’s goalkeeper coach.
The Ambush will find themselves back in action less than 24 hours after the start of Friday’s home opener, when they head to the western side of the state to face the rival Kansas City Comets Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m. CST in Independence. Saturday’s duel will be the home opener for the Comets, who dropped their season opener 6-5 in overtime to the Turlock Cal Express on November 22 on the road. The Ambush and Comets will do battle six times this season, as they did last season, when the Ambush prevailed in four of those games.
The first 2,000 fans in attendance for the Black Friday Home Opener will receive a free black Ambush tee shirt. Single game tickets for the 2019-20 campaign are now on sale and can be purchased at the Family Arena box office or at ticketmaster.com. Groups of 10 or more can purchase their discounted tickets now and season tickets are also on sale. For group or season ticket sales, call the Ambush office at 636-477-6363.
