The St. Louis Ambush have obtained veteran player Tony Walls via trade, the team announced today. Walls comes to the Ambush from the Ontario Fury in exchange for future considerations. Per league and team policies, no further details were disclosed.
The 2019-2020 season will be Walls’ seventh in professional indoor soccer. In addition to last season with Ontario, Tony has played with the Milwaukee Wave (2013-16) and Cedar Rapids Rampage (2016-18). Walls also had stints with outdoor teams the Michigan Bucks (2011), Chicago Fire (2012), Rochester Rhinos (2014-16) and the Chattanooga Red Wolves (2019). Local fans will remember Walls from his stint with St. Louis FC (2017-18).
Prior to turning pro, Walls played four years of collegiate soccer at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Ambush Head Coach Hewerton said of his newest player, “Tony is a very experienced player and a true leader. St. Louis fans are familiar with him and how he dedicates himself to the team he is representing. I’ve thought Tony would be a good addition to our squad for the past couple seasons and I’m pleased we were able to put together a deal to bring him to St. Louis for the coming season.”
Walls has played forward, midfield and defender during his career, and Hewerton plans to utilize Tony as a forward saying, “I’m very positive that he’ll score a lot of goals for us, however, it’s great to have that caliber of player that can contribute in any position you need.”
Walls said he is looking forward to beginning the next phase of his soccer journey in St. Louis. “I am very excited to be a new member of the Ambush organization. One rich in history and a very loyal fan base throughout the years, and very professionally ran. I’m familiar with the city, Hewerton and his coaching style and the winning culture he creates, so it was a no brainer for me. I’m excited to get to work, and win games.”
