“How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” is the third and final film in the “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise. I have grown up with these films and love the first two so much, so I was really looking forward to this film, and it did not dissappoint.
I have to start off with the animation here, it is absolutely gorgeous! I love that you can tell that every little detail went into this film. There are so many beautiful shots and colors in this film and it was just so nice to look at.
The always great John Powell, who did the phenomenal scores for the first two films, returns and gives another great score that goes great with this franchise once again and I can not wait to own all three of these soundtracks on vinyl. The action scenes are great and super fun to watch.
My main problem with the film would probably have to be the villian though. I get that films like this need a villian, they need conflict, but honestly, I didn’t really feel like he needed to be there, and if he wasn’t, I feel like it wouldn’t make that much of a difference on the film. Other than that minor problem I loved the ending to this film, no spoilers obviously, but it is a great and super emotional ending, that honestly hit me right where it needed to at all the right moments.
Even though I would say this probably the weakest film in the trilogy, this is definitely nowhere near being a bad film, I see it as a “Return of the Jedi” situation, “Return of the Jedi” is definitely not the best film in the original “Star Wars” trilogy, but is still a great film.
Overall, this is a great film, with alot of heart, great action, good humor, and is a fantastic ending to a phenomenal trilogy and I can’t wait to see it again.
