The St. Louis Ambush fell 10-4 to the Kansas City Comets Saturday night at the Family Arena. The loss dropped the Ambush’s record to 3-3, while the Comets improved to 2-4 on the season.
The Ambush took an early 2-0 lead on goals by Antonio Manfut and Clayton. The Comets cut the lead in half when Robert Palmer scored in the last minute of the opening frame. Leo Gibson netted the equalizer for Kansas City in the second quarter, followed by goals from Anthony Grant and Bryan Perez to give the Comets a 4-2 halftime lead.
The Comets grew their lead to 6-2, thanks to third period goals from Perez and Lucas Rodriguez. The Ambush chipped away at the deficit when JT Thomas scored off a long pass from Pepe, only to have Gibson answer for the Comets to make the score 7-3. The back-and-forth continued when Justin Stinson found the back of the net for the Ambush for the final tally of the third quarter. Gibson completed the hat trick as the Comets increased their lead to 8-4 just over five minutes into the final stanza. John Sosa increased Kansas City’s lead to 9-4 with his unassisted tally. With Lucas Almeida in as the sixth attacker for St. Louis, Anthony Grant easily scored his second of the contest for a final score of 10-4.
Petricek saved nine in 13 chances (.692 save percentage) in earning the win in goal for Kansas City. Paulo saved 13 of 22 (.591). The Comets outshot the Ambush 30-24.
The Ambush will close out 2018 with a New Year’s Eve matinee game in Milwaukee against the Wave Monday at 3:05 p.m. CT.
