“Bumblebee” is the newest film in the “Transformers” series and is the first film not directed by Michael Bay and boy let me tell you that’s a good thing. I personally have always been a fan of the “Transformers” films even though I know they’re not really great, but when I heard they were making this film I was intrigued, then I saw the trailers and realized this might be the first actual good “Transformers” film and you know what, it is.
The first thing I want to talk about is the designs of the Transformers in this film, now I think the Transformers have always looked nice in the films, but what I love about these designs is that, they look like they are directly ripped out of the 80s cartoon and that is something we have never got in any of these films and I loved that. The cast did pretty good overall with the best performances coming from the two main stars, Hailee Steinfeld and Jorge Lendeborg Jr., and surprisingly I thought John Cena did a pretty decent job in the film as well.
The action here is directed very well because unlike the other “Transformers” films, you can actually see what is going on while the action is happening and even though this film is big on action, the action feels more smaller in scale. Another reason why I am glad they brought in a new director is because this film is not just based around the action, it has heart, it has a good story, characters you feel for, and that’s something Michael Bay never really had in his “Transformers” films, this film has a very “Iron Giant” and “E.T.” feel to it and I really enjoyed that aspect of it.
The effects here are really good, except for a couple times where it looked alittle unfinished, I liked the colors and how vibrant and bright it was, and I really enjoyed the 80s setting of the film.
In the end, I really did enjoy “Bumblebee” and think it easily is the best “Transformers” film yet, this is a good film for people of all ages, “Transformers” fans old and new, and it’s just a really nice heartfelt film with great action, a good story, good acting, and cool characters. I do recommend you check this one out if you are a fan of these films, but especially if you are fan of the 80s cartoon.
