Who would have thought that an animated Spider-Man film would become the best Spider-Man film yet! “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” is the new animated film from Sony Animation, and is the story of Miles Morales a New York teen who is struggling with school, friends, and just becoming the new Spider-Man of his reality. When he crosses paths with Peter Parker the original Spider-Man, and other Spider people from many other realities, they must come together to stop a threat that could destroy all realities.
I loved everything about this film. I want to start off with the big thing, the animation. The animation in this film is beautiful, the attention to the tiniest detail is insane, and this is easily the best animated film of the year and deserves all the praise that will be coming to it. The voice cast is fantastic. There is some great talent in this cast, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Mahershala Ali, Shameik Moore, John Mulaney, and they even had Nicolas Cage in there! Everyone was fantastic and all of their comedic timing was great.
This film was very funny and had me laughing alot especially when it gets really meta and the music in the film was fantastic and not just the score done by Daniel Pemberton, but the actual songs used in the film are amazing as well. Another thing I really loved about this film was how serious it got at times.
For a PG rated Spider-Man film, it does take on dark and serious things at points and I thought those moments really worked. This film is also great for diversity with Miles Morales being the first black/latino Spider-Man in the comics and with him finally getting his own film that he has deservered. Also of course there was a Stan Lee cameo and I thought it was handled perfectly, it honestly almost brought a tear to my eye, and it was beautiful.
In the end, this film definitely exceeded my expectations and it reminded me once again why I love Spider-Man so much and not only as a character, but also as a hero. I really want to check this one out again in 3D and see how this animation looks in that, I definitely recommend this film for families and especially the Spider-Man fans, and also make sure you stay after all the credits because there is an awesome tease for a sequel and it comes with a fantastic joke.
