“The Meg” Movie Review

by Mitchel Garcia

It’s Jason Statham vs. A Megalodon in the surprise hit of the summer, “The Meg”. Is “The Meg” pretty ridiculous, yes it is, but oh boy it is very entertaining. I am a fan of shark movies, and when I saw this trailer it looked like it was not taking itself to seriously and looked like fun and thankfully that is close to exactly what I got.

The cast overall did a decent job with what they were given, the two who stood out the most though for me were Rainn Wilson also known as Dwight from “The Office” and of course Jason Statham, I think the guy just has great charisma and that really helps you like his character throughout this film.

Now, lets get to the Meg itself because it is a character in this film, it’s awesome, when it’s on screen that is when the movie is at its best. The effects are pretty good, there are some scenes where it doesn’t look great, but overall it is pretty good.

I do have a couple problems with it. I said in the beginning of my review, this film is close to what I got in the trailers because there are some places where I think it does take itself a little too seriously and loses its focus on what type of film it’s trying to be and that took me out of it a bit. Also there is some dialogue in there that I did think was pretty bad and felt really out of place.

In the end, I actually did enjoy “The Meg” for what it is and would definitely see it again at a matinee price and if you are looking for a film that is just big, ridiculous, and alot of fun, this is definitely the film for you.
