Flaming Lips hypnotize fans at St. Louis Music Park

by Danya Artimisi

In prevailing fashion, The Flaming Lips brought their spectacular psychedelia to St. Louis Music Park on Wednesday night.  Wayne Coyne and company dazzled fans with a performance of their 2002 iconic album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots in it’s entirety, leaving fans in awe and relishing in nostalgia.

As expected, the band featured a magnificent stage presentation of giant inflatable pink robots, streamers, and confetti canons throughout the show along with a spectacular ever changing light display, most of which backlit the band, accenting Wayne Coyne’s signature silouhette.

The band performed She Don’t Use Jelly, the song that broke them into the mainstream, and upon the first notes of Do You Realize??, fans tearfully sang along.  The performance also came with a surpise cover of Madonna’s Borderline as the crowd’s sing-along echoed throughout the venue.

The show wrapped with one encore and a heartfelt statement by Coyne conveying to a quiet, attentive crowd about the mental health struggles that are prominent in this day and age, before performing their explosive final number.

The Flamnig Lips never fail to satisfy fans and nailed it again, though you’d never know that they’ve been going strong for over 30 years.
