Chris Stapleton – St. Louis

by Andrew Gegg

Chris Stapleton at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater – 7.13.2018

I should start this post by saying, I’m not the biggest country music fan. I am a rock/blues type of guy. When I think of country music today, I can’t help but just think of pop country music, like Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, and Kane Brown. That doesn’t make me want to like country music.

What a different story for Chris Stapleton. This guy makes me want to like country music. He has that country twang, the old school country music sound, without all the pop music sounds. When you listen to Chris Stapleton, you hear country, you hear rock, and you hear some blues. That right there, gets me interested. That’s the kind of country I can listen to. He’s a natural, and I think he could be the guy that makes old school country, cool again. Bring in a little rock, bring in a little blues, and mix it in with your country music. Get rid of all the pop sounds, the techno, and the rap. That’s not country.

Going to this Chris Stapleton concert, I didn’t know what to expect. I knew some of his top hits, but that was it. After the show, I downloaded full albums, because I was so impressed. His voice is quite soothing and very easy to listen to. He is a master on the guitar, especially when he breaks out those rock riffs and blues riffs during solos. I would easily go see him again when he comes back. I highly recommend going to his show. It may come at a high price, but it is worth it, and it will be an experience that you will never forget. Chris Stapleton is going to make you want to love country music.
