Peoria, IL – The Peoria Chiefs hit two more home runs and beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 7-1 on Saturday night at Dozer Park. The win moves the Chiefs back over .500 at 7-6 and they have won four in a row at home.
Wisconsin took the lead in the first with an unearned run against Chiefs starter Evan Guillory. With one down Gabriel Garcia reached on an error and moved to second on a single by Joangtel Segovia. Pat McInerney put the Rattlers on top 1-0 with a single to center.
The Chiefs took the lead in the third inning against starter Christian Taugner. With one out Edwin Figuera reached on a bunt single and stole second. With two down Taylor Bryant drew a walk and Yariel Gonzalez tied the game with a single to left. Elehuris Montero put the Chiefs on top for good with a single to right for a 2-1 lead.
With Guillory cruising through six innings, the Chiefs added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Montero launched a solo home run to left for a 3-1 lead, his second of the season.
Peoria broke the game wide open in the eighth against Rodrigo Benoit. With one down Montero singled to right and moved to third on a double by Juan Yepez. Wisconsin intentionally walked Dylan Carlson and Bryce Denton launched a grand slam into the left-field berm for a 7-1 lead.
Guillory (1-1) earned the win as he struck out seven over six innings while allowing one unearned run on five hits. Zach Prendergast earned the save as he threw three shutout innings with five strikeouts.
