25 And Counting Tour: Counting Crows and LIVE!

by Mick Lite

Personally, I have been waiting for this tour to be announced for about a year and a half. Counting Crows has been to town the last couple of years with Rob Thomas in 2016 and Matchbox 20 last year, but +LIVE+ has been one of my very favorite bands ever since ‘Throwing Copper.” I last saw them in 2008 when they opened for Collective Soul at the Crossroads in KC, it was an AMAZING show that started with everybody getting pelted by golf ball sized hail and sending everyone scattering for cover….. while I held a jacket over our heads and stayed out there so we could move up to the first row. So worth it!

Not long after (2009ish?), LIVE took a two-year hiatus which ended up being a breakup between the band and Ed Kowalczyk. The band went on with Chris Shinn as their lead singer and released an album in 2014 while Ed went solo and released two albums of his own. Then, in December of 2016, after months of rumors, Ed rejoined LIVE and they started working on new music.

In explaining the band’s decision to welcome Kowalczyk back, guitarist Chad Taylor said, “Ed, Chad, Patrick and I are no different than your average family. We might divide ourselves or argue fiercely but thankfully time, and the grand gesture of forgiveness, helps to heal old wounds. We’ve worked hard to restore the tenants of faith and trust that bonded us in the beginning.”

“The nice thing about having 25 years of music to celebrate and seven studio albums we absolutely love to choose from is that we can play a different show every night,” Counting Crows vocalist Adam Duritz said of the tour. “The nice thing about touring with +LIVE+ is that we get to spend yet another summer with old friends who play great music. We can’t wait!”

Tickets will go on sale to the general public for select cities on Friday, April 6, at 10 am local time, while fan presale begins on Tuesday, April 3, at 10 am local time.

They will perform at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Maryland Heights on September 9th! Stay tuned, we will definitely have some tickets to give away for this show!
