Well here we are at the cusp of the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi; we’re excited and a little bit nervous to see if Luke truly is a villain in the film due to his ominous and somewhat scary demeanor in the trailers. However while The Last Jedi still has yet to surprise us with reveals and probably more to come before its release, another Star Wars reveal occurred this week: the official title of the Han Solo film, simply, and probably fittingly, called Solo: A Star Wars Story.
When Disney acquired the rights of Star Wars they didn’t hesitate to announced Episode’s VII, VIII and IX; but they also surprised us with additional films that would be released in between the release of the titular sequel trilogy films, giving us fans the delight and thrill of having a new Star Wars film released every year up until 2020. One of those films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, came out last year and was a critical and financial success worldwide, with some even being so bold as to say it was on par with Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (I mean come on, Empire is the best out of all of the episodes!).
Slated to be released next year, Solo: A Star Wars Story will tell the story of a young Han Solo (Alden Ehreneich), his early adventures and take place between Episode’s III and IV. We do know that a young Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) will be amongst the star studded cast, including Woody Harrelson (Han’s mentor), and even Jude Law, who recently finished his portion of filming.
It is also worth noting that the third untitled Star Wars Anthology film is rumored to be a Boba Fett standalone film and then a standalone film about Obi-Wan Kenobi (a rumor now recently confirmed!) will be released after 2020.
There’s no denying it; the Force is truly strong with us, and will be for the next 5 years.
