Saint Louis FC and the Chicago Fire officially announced Thursday their continued affiliation for the 2016 season.
“We are very excited to continue our affiliation with the Chicago Fire.” explained Jeremy Alumbaugh, Saint Louis FC General Manager. “Last season was a productive one for both Saint Louis FC and the Chicago Fire with what we were able to accomplish in terms of player development.”
Chicago Fire GM Nelson Rodriguez added “Our USL affiliate provides a valuable opportunity to develop young players. Saint Louis FC was an excellent partner during their inaugural season and we look forward to working with Saint Louis FC again in 2016.”
The Fire loaned a number of players to Saint Louis FC during the 2015 season, including Patrick Doody, Alec Kann and Kingsley Bryce who helped shape the foundation for the club’s inaugural campaign. A defenseman, Doody appeared in 21 matches for Saint Louis FC, played over 1,600 minutes and assisted on four goals. Similarly, goalkeeper Alec Kann appeared in 19 matches and accumulated 74 saves with six clean sheets. Additionally, 2013 MLS MVP Mike Magee, was loaned to the club for a one game stint while returning from injury.
During the 2016 MLS Super Draft, the Fire and Saint Louis FC collaborated on the needs of each club as they move forward. “We suspect that there are going to be players that we provide to them and they did such a great job last year with Alec Kann, Kinglsey Bryce and Patrick Doody.” said Rodriguez. “We know they’ll do a great job for us again this year so it’s important that we did communicate and talk about what needs they may have in their roster so that did play a part in who we drafted and how we drafted.”
“We’re committed to providing them players that will help them achieve their own set of goals, yet in return we know that we’ll get back players who have been well developed.” Rodriguez concluded.
