St Charles, MO – Failing to win a game in their first six attempts has cost St. Louis Ambush head coach Daryl Doran his job, team owner Andrew Haines stated Monday morning. Both Doran and assistant coach Joe Smugala have been relieved from their duties
“We thank Daryl and Joe for all their hard work over the past two seasons and for their contributions to soccer in St. Louis, but after two losing seasons and a 0-6 start to the current season, we felt a change in direction was an absolute necessity. Our fans have been loyal and deserve better than we’ve delivered.”
Doran was the last link of the new incarnation of the team to the hey day of St Louis indoor soccer. His popularity with the fans will be undiminished as he tried to bring in fresh faces to the team to shake things up. However the record for this season of 0-6 and and overall record in three seasons of 12-34 was his undoing.
Whilst no doubt in a tough division with Missouri Comets and Milwaukee Wave, the final straw appears to have been losing to their weakest opponent thus far as they fell 6-5 in overtime to Tacoma Stars at Family Arena on Saturday.
There is no word yet who will replace Doran for the Ambush next game in Cedar Rapids on Saturday 19th December.

Tony Glavin, owner of the St. Louis Lions soccer team (PDL) & a successful youth soccer program, has been tapped as the new Coach of the Ambush. Injured Forward Fred Moojen is named as player/assistant coach for the rest of the year. We know there is enough talent on the Ambush roster to win – hopefully Glavin can bring new ideas & energy to turn things around.
