Otters Sweep Doubleheader on Urquhart’s Walk-off Hit

The Evansville Otters (45-41) swept the Frontier Greys (39-47) in a doubleheader on Wednesday night, winning the opening contest 1-0 and claiming a 4-3 win on an RBI single from infielder Cory Urquhart in the finale.

Pitcher Connor Little (7-5) earned the win in both contests with a combined 2.2 scoreless innings on the night.

In the opener, Evansville was held hitless until outfielder Chris Sweeney broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with an RBI double.

Ahead 1-0, closer Edgar Lopez worked around a leadoff single to retire the final three batters he faced and claim the game one win.

Otters pitcher Hunter Ackerman threw 5.2 scoreless innings in the no decision, yielding just four hits and striking out five. Little (6-5) received the win after retiring the only batter he faced in the sixth. The save for Lopez was his 23rd this year, a single season franchise record.

In game two, outfielder John Schultz pushed Evansville ahead with a first inning home run. The Otters added two more runs in the fourth on a Phillips RBI double and a run producing single from catcher J.D. Dorgan.

Down 3-0, the Greys tied the game with three runs in the fifth.

The contest stayed even until the bottom of the seventh, when Dorgan reached on a single and throwing error only to score on Urquhart’s single.

Vail did not factor into the decision, going 4.2 innings of three run baseball. Little pitched 2.1 innings without allowing a run and totaling four strikeouts in the win.

Dorgan recorded three hits in the final game of the doubleheader.

The Otters conclude the three game series with the Greys on Thursday, August 27. It is Budweiser Thirsty Thursday with drink specials throughout the night. First pitch set for 6:35 p.m. CDT.
