The Evansville Otters (39-19) received three RBIs from outfielder Dane Phillips and 7.0 innings of one run baseball from pitcher Trevor Walch in an 8-1 win over the Washington Wild Things (25-33) on Friday night.

On First Responders night, it was Evansville who scored first on an RBI double from Phillips in the opening frame.

Ahead 1-0, the Otters batted around to score six more runs in the second inning. Evansville worked two bases loaded walks, received another two-run single from Phillips and an added two-run double by outfielder Jeremy Nowak.

Up by seven, outfielder Kurt Wertz Jr. tallied another run for the Otters with a third inning RBI single to center field.

Down 8-0, Washington plated their only run with a run scoring single in the fourth.

Walch (8-3) yielded just one run in 7.0 innings for the victory. His eight wins ties teammate Efrain Nieves and Southern Illinois pitcher Rick Teasley for most victories in the Frontier League this season. Walch now has 16 wins and is in sole possession of the third most wins in franchise history.

With the victory, Evansville manager Andy McCauley became the first Otters manager to record his 250th win with the franchise.

Phillips led Evansville offensively with a 2-for-4 performance and three RBIs. Wertz Jr. entered the game in the second inning for injured infielder Shayne Houck, going 1-for-1 with a run scored and two RBIs. Nowak also collected two RBIs and has four total runs batted in over the last two games played.

The Otters are a Frontier League best 22-9 at Bosse Field this season.
