Former Oakland University right-handed pitcher Tim Koons signed a professional contract with the River City Rascals of the Frontier League.
“I am thrilled for Tim and his opportunity at the professional level,” said head coach John Musachio. “He is a tremendous competitor and a terrific young man.”
Koons, a native of Castle Rock, Colo., was named to the All-Horizon League second team after leading the league with 71 strikeouts and being ranked 48th in the country with 9.22 strikeouts per nine innings. He finished 2014 with a 3-2 record and a 3.86 ERA in 70.0 innings. Koons ranked second in the Horizon League in opposing batting average at .236 and seventh in ERA. He was named the Horizon League’s Pitcher of the Week after becoming just the second OU player to toss a complete-game shutout in a nine-inning game on May 3 against Valparaiso.
Koons transferred to Oakland from Fort Scott Community College prior to the 2013 season and finished his two-year career at OU tossing 161.2 innings, while accruing 143 strikeouts, just under one strikeout per inning. With the Golden Grizzlies he accumulated a 7-7 record and a 3.62 ERA in 27 appearances including 23 starts.
