The Southern Illinois Miners have announced the signing of relief pitcher Derrick Miramontes.

Miramontes will be entering his sixth season of professional baseball. He started his career with the Miners as a rookie in 2009. He was then traded to Shreveport Captains of the American Association in 2009 and was later sent to the River City Rascals. Over two seasons and 88 appearances for the Rascals, Derrick had a 2.20 ERA with a 12-5 record and 22 saves. He struck out 126 in 106 innings, walking only 50 and allowing just 69 total hits.

Over his career, Miramontes has a 21-9 record and a 3.13 over 198 games pitched. He finished the 2013 season with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks of the American Association where he had a 2.77 ERA.

“Derrick has been a dominant bullpen arm and will bring veteran leadership to our bullpen,” Miners manager Mike Pinto said. “He is a winner and will bring a winning mentality to his job everyday. Derrick’s a hard worker and knows what it takes to be successful day in and day out in our league. This was an important signing for us.”
