The Southern Illinois Miners have announced that pitchers Travis Bradshaw and Michael Carden will return for the 2014 season.

The tall, right-handed Bradshaw is coming off a very strong rookie season in 2013 in which he went 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 13 starts. In 69 2/3 innings, he compiled 47 strikeouts against 22 walks, with opposing batters hitting only .234 against him.

“Travis did a great job as a rookie last season and was an important part of our rotation,” Miners manager Mike Pinto said. “With a few more innings he could have been among the league leaders in ERA. He has the capability of being a very important part of our rotation.”

In 2013, Carden appeared in 24 games, starting three times. In 53 innings of work, the lefty struck out 35 and walked 26 while holding opponents to a .267 average.

“Michael filled a number of roles last season for us and had some games that were very impressive,”Pinto said. “We are looking for him to build on his rookie season.”
