The Southern Illinois Miners have announced the hiring of their new radio voice Jason Guerette. Guerette joins the Miners after spending last summer as the voice of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen of the Midwest Collegiate League.
“We are extremely excited to have Jason as the newest member of the Miners staff,” said Vice-President Tim Arseneau. “He has a strong background in broadcasting and will be a great addition to our staff.”
Guerette brings a multitude of broadcasting experience that goes back to his days as a student at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. At Seton Hall, Guerette broadcasted baseball, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s basketball on their well-known student station, WSOU. He was a member of the station for all four years and is the second-ever inductee into the WSOU Hall of Fame.
Since graduating Seton Hall in 2012, Guerette has continued to work for his alma mater as a broadcaster for their women’s basketball team on the Pirate Sports Network. He’s also worked for Westwood One as a board operator for college football and basketball, including the NCAA Tournament. Jason also spent time with the East Texas Pump Jacks of the Texas Collegiate League as their Media Relations Coordinator and broadcaster.
This past year, Guerette has worked for St. Francis Brooklyn as a broadcaster for soccer, volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball. He also serves as a public address announcer for Seton Hall’s women’s basketball team and St. Francis Brooklyn’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.
“I am proud and excited to be the new radio voice of the Southern Illinois Miners,” said Guerette. “To be a part of a truly first-class professional baseball organization like the Miners fulfills a long-time dream of mine. I am looking forward to bringing all the action and excitement of Miners baseball to the fans this season.”
Fans can listen to Jason call all 96 Miners games on the Miners Radio Network, including the flagship station, US 97 in Marion. The four other Withers Broadcasting stations comprising the network are KJXX 1170 AM in Cape Girardeau, WRXX 95.3 FM in Centralia, WEBQ 1240 AM in Harrisburg and WRJJ 104.3 FM in Paducah.
