The St. Louis Ambush indoor soccer team is sponsoring the annual Indoor Soccer Classic for Responder Rescue with Unsung Heroes at noon Jan. 4 at the Family Arena.
First responder’s throughout Missouri will be playing head to head in a friendly soccer match to help raise money for injured heroes. The participants for this year’s Soccer Classic are police officers and firefighters/paramedics from the St. Charles and St. Louis areas.
Unsung Heroes was founded in 2009 by St. Louis County police officer Jason Corson, who felt there was more he could be doing to serve his community. In an effort to raise money for men and women of all areas of public safety in the St. Louis area, he began the organization.
Unsung Heroes holds different fundraising events throughout the year for fallen first responders. These include mouse races, cookouts, outdoor soccer tournaments and the annual Soccer Classic. All proceeds from these fundraisers are donated to various first-responder charities. The main goal of Unsung Heroes is to bring people together in a fun and family-oriented environment, while giving back to those who have lost their lives protecting our communities.
“Unsung Heroes is meant to give hope to those who need it. I know that our efforts are not wasted if we can help at least one individual who has been hurt while on duty,” Corson said.
All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Responder Rescue in assisting injured first responders. Admission to the games is $18. Tickets can be purchased through a participating police officer and firefighters or by emailing Corson at [email protected].
“This is more than just a soccer match. It’s about supporting those who protect us daily and their families,” said one volunteer, who works with the Unsung Heroes organization.
