Miners Lose Game And Series To Boomers

The Miners (46-38) suffered the loss on Thursday evening as the Boomers defeated them 10-3 to win the series at Rent One Park.  Miners starter Brett Kennedy (1-1) received his first loss as a Miner as he allowed eight runs through 4 2/3 innings.

Boomers right fielder Justin Vazquez hit a RBI single off Kennedy in the top of the second inning as he scored designated hitter Brian McConkey to give the Boomers a 1-0 lead.  The Boomers added two more runs off Kennedy in the top of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead.  Schaumburg chased Kennedy out of the game in the top of the fifth inning as they scored five runs to take a 8-0 lead.  The Boomers scored their ninth run in the top of the sixth inning off Miners reliever John Colella.

The Miners got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning off Boomers reliever Matt Kuna.  Steven Liddle hit a RBI single and Cory Harrilchak scored on a throwing error by Boomers second baseman Jordan Dean to bring the Miners within seven runs, 9-2.  Schaumburg added another run in the top of the eighth inning off Jason Ganek, who made his second relief appearance of his Miners career.  Harrilchak hit a RBI single off Boomers reliever James Bierlein in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut the Boomers lead to 10-3.

Cannon Lester made his second appearance out of the bullpen as he pitched the top of the ninth inning.  He walked one batter and recorded one strikeout.

The Miners begin a nine game road trip in ten days on Friday as they head to Florence, Kentucky to play the Florence Freedom.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 pm at UCMC Stadium.  Mike Ventola will have the call on the Miners Radio Network and southernillinoisminers.com beginning at 5:15 pm with the Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show.
