Vancil and Company Shutout Boomers 4-0

The Southern Illinois Miners defeated the Schaumburg Boomers 4-0 as the Boomers only recorded two hits.  Preston Vancil (8-4) earned the win as he pitched six shutout innings only allowing one hit and striking out seven batters while walking four.  The only hit he allowed was by Boomers centerfielder Alexi Colon in the top of the sixth inning with one out.  The Miners are now ten games over .500 at 46-36 and are tied with the Gateway Grizzlies for the final wild card spot.

The Miners jumped out to an early 3-0 lead off Boomers starter Mike Giovenco as Jereme Milons hit a RBI double to score Steven Liddle to get the inning started.  Ken Gregory hit a RBI single to score Carlos Mendez to give the Miners their second run.  Milons stole home as Gregory stole second base to give the Miners their third run.

Cannon Lester added another run for the Miners as he hit a RBI single off Boomers reliever James Bierlein in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Miners a 4-0 lead.

Race Parmenter pitched two scoreless innings and recorded three strikeouts.  Ronald Uviedo pitched a scoreless ninth inning as he gave up one hit and struck out two batters.

Southern Illinois and Schaumburg continue their series on Wednesday evening at Rent One Park.  Travis Bradshaw (3-0, 2.74 ERA) will be on the mound for the Miners as he’ll be opposed by right-hander Tony Delmonico (0-1, 6.85 ERA) of Schaumburg.  First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
