Marion, IL – The Southern Illinois Miners continue to have a strong home stand as they defeated the Normal CornBelters 3-2 on Tuesday night. Miners reliever Ronald Uviedo (1-0) earned his first win as a Miner as he pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief and struck out two batters. The Miners are 42-34 on the season and are four games back in the East Division.
Jon Eisen hit his first triple of the season off CornBelters starter Drew Provence to lead off the bottom of the third inning. Steven Liddle grounded out to shortstop to bring Eisen home and give the Miners a 1-0 lead. Normal tied at 1-1 off Nation in the top of the fifth inning. CornBelters rightfielder Aaron Dudley hit a solo home run off Nation in the top of the sixth inning to give Normal a 2-1 lead.
Blake Nation pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed two runs. He gave up five hits and walked four batters with three strikeouts in a no-decision.
The Miners tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning as Gerardo Avila scored on a wild pitch by CornBelters reliver Jose Trinidad. Southern Illinois then took the lead 3-2 with the bases loaded off Trinidad as Jereme Milons scored on an error by third baseman TJ Gavlik.
Race Parmenter earned his sixth save in the ninth as he retired the side and recorded one strikeout.
